Forum Guidelines

Here are the rules and guidelines for using the CriticalSecurity.NET forums. As a member of the CS.net community, you are required to abide by the rules written herein if you wish to continue to use these forums.

RULES
The following rules must be respected by all members of the CS.net community. Anyone violating the items listed below will be dealt with according to its severity.

- Do not post introduction threads simply to say 'hi', if you want to introduce yourself, tell us about yourself, your hobbies, your experience in IT, and what you expect from joining Critical Security.
- Do not post material not related to the goals and mission of CS.net, with exception to content posted in General Chat.
- Do not plagiarize. Only post text or images which you originated, or is public domain, or short excerpts classed as fair use. (Use the link feature if you must supply additional materials to the reader such as large documents, press releases or web site content)
- Do not ask the CS.net community to perform - or give advice on - illegal activity of any kind.
- Do not post URLs, keywords, search terms, and any other references to illegal activities.
- Do not post in visually displeasing fonts, colours, and sizes, including leet speak.
- Do not post in dead topics just to "bump" it. Only post if you have something VALUABLE to contribute.
- Do not abuse or harass other members of the CS.net community. No 'flaming'. No homophobism, racism, sexism or other 'isms'.
- Do not post dangerous code (ie: exploits towards the IPB functionality). If you must do this - preferably for testing purposes - use the testing forum.
- Do not use seizure-causing animated avatars or images.
- Do not use images in signatures larger than 500x100 pixels or 55 kilobytes file size.
- Do not use images and text in your signature larger than six lines on an 800x600 screen resolution.
- Do not use avatars larger than 55 kilobytes in size and 70x70 pixels in size.
- Do not create topics with vague titles; a good subject line will encourage your thought process and is more likely to attract people who know how to help.

GUIDELINES
The following guidelines enhance your experience at CS.net and are considered general 'netiquette' in any online community.

- 'teach me to hack' threads are often very frustrating. Users who ask this question generally don't have any computer systems experience. Try to avoid asking this question. Hacking cannot be taught. However, if you have a specific question (ie: How does an SQL injection work?) that is permissible and in fact, we encourage you to ask and learn. That is why we are here!
- When looking for help in the forums, use the search function to see if a similar thread already exists. It may solve your problem, it may not. But you become more respectable if you've already searched prior to posting.
- Keep to the standard font, colour, and size when posting. Emphasis of key terms is preferred with bold type or slightly larger font size.
- Use the English language properly. Try to write with proper English grammar and sentence structure. Not Yoda you are.
- Do not use foul language. Remember, the boards are public and accessible by anyone.
- Do not post in old topics that have been abandoned unless there exists a compelling reason to do so.
- Do not engage in arguments with other members, including CS.net staff. A discussion is not the same thing as an argument, discussions are, by the very nature of forums, encouraged.

DISCIPLINE
Disciplinary action may take several forms:

- Post deletion
- Topic deletion
- A 'verbal' warning.
- A formal warning.
- A temporary ban of your account.
- A permanent ban of your account.

If a post goes against the above mentioned Forum Rules, your post can be edited or deleted by a staff member. Verbal or formal warnings can be included with a post edit or deletion.

If an entire thread has violated the Forum Rules, either due to the thread's original post, or subsequent posts, the thread itself can be locked, or deleted. As above, this can be accompanied by a verbal or formal warning to all involved. If your topic has been deleted, please refrain from posting a second time asking for the reason of the deletion. If you believe it to be unfair, send a Private Message to a staff member.

A verbal warning may be a Private Message from a staff member of CS.net or a forum post directed to you. These warnings are considered non-formal. A formal warning is done through the warn-bar system. Each warn adds a 20% to your warning level. Once the bar reaches 100%, your account is banned. Whether the ban is temporary or permanent is situation specific. Likewise, warns are not obligated to be only 20%, they can be more.

A temporary ban can occur after a formal warning has reached 100%, or can occur earlier. Once again, this is situation specific. Temporary bans can last anywhere from a few hours, to several days. A permanent ban is exactly that. Permanent. In most cases, your account and posts are locked out, however in some cases, these can be deleted and removed from the CS.net server.

ACCOUNT DELETION
Accounts with zero (0) posts and last active over three (3) months ago are periodically deleted in order to purge the database of inactive accounts. Accounts found to contain advertising, spam, pornography, or other content deemed inappropriate are deleted immediately.

If you wish to have your account deleted, be it for security reasons or other, please contact a member of the administrators (Pilot, digi7al64, or Henke37).

DISCLOSURE
The above Forum Rules are subject to change with or without notice. They must be followed as directed. Obviously, rules are to be complied with, whereas guidelines are suggestive.

Registration on the CS.net forums is based on the assumption you have read and understood the Forum Rules and agree to abide by them.

Questions or complaints regarding the Forum Rules should be directed to a staff member of CS.net. Do not create threads for that purpose.

For bans you should email a admin (Pilot can be reached at pilot.at.criticalsecurity.dot.net or digi7al64 at digi7al64.at.criticalsecurity.dot.net, and Henke37 at henke37.at.criticalsecurity.dot.net) to appeal, do not create a new account to complain.
